Answer as Albert

Although people may decide to reject family expectations, they are always influenced by the attitudes, values and beliefs they have learned from their parents. Is it true to say that we can decide for ourselves who we will become?

I learnt the hard way that no matter how much we want to decide for ourselves to who we will become, our decision will always be impacted by our parents. I’m sure there are plenty of times when people choose to reject their family expectations as we all have our own opinions. However, by the end of the day, you learn that you can’t help but become involved with the attitude, values and beliefs that your parents encourage as you are brought up with it since you were born. As we grow older, we develop our own identities and can decide who we will become but this identity you choose to become would have been heavily influenced by your parents. In other words, the people who we choose to become are part of what our parents influence us to become as well.
